Q: What is this facility? Why do I need to go?
A: The Communities for Recovery facility offers Peer Support for individuals in recovery from substance use, alcohol, etc. The Travis County District Attorney has created a Pre-Trial Diversion program that requires attendance of events/classes at this facility.
Q: What is the first step?
A: You need to do a 20-30min "group tour" orientation. The counselors will show you facility and give you more information about the classes/events they offer. The group tours are offered on the 2nd Friday and 4th Monday of each month at 1pm (arrive 15 minutes early).
Q: What classes/events do they offer?
A: They have a wide range of counseling classes/events. They even have yoga and guitar lessons! Plus FREE COFFEE!
Q: I can get credit for doing a yoga class?
A: Yes!
Q: Do they have any online meetings to attend for credit?
A: Yes! You must tell them that you are doing it for the Travis County Diversion Program. It is called the M.A.R.A. class.
Q: How do I find out the times for the classes/events?
A: Classes are listed on the MEETUP.com website. You will need to create a (free) account on Meetup.com. The events are listed HERE. You can also call Communities for Recovery at 512-758-7686.
Q: Are there any rules about going to an event?
A: Only that you must be sober. You're not required to talk or speak during a class, but you will need to stay engaged.
Q: How do I prove I went to the class/event?
A: The Communities for Recovery staff has participation forms they will sign to prove you attended the class.
Q: What should I do with the signed participation forms?
A: Take a picture of the form and email it to us. We will give them to the prosecutor when you finish the required number of classes.
