Williamson County Discovery Docket
Charlie explains the Williamson County Discovery Docket
What is a discovery docket in Williamson County?
A discovery docket is a placeholder court date that gives prosecutors time to provide the defense attorney with all the evidence in your case. This process is called discovery.
Do I need to appear in court for the discovery docket?
No. You do not need to appear in court for this date. We will monitor the discovery process and track your case.
Why does Williamson County use a discovery docket?
The court wants to avoid scheduling appearances before the defense has received all the evidence. Having everyone appear in court before discovery is complete would waste time and overcrowd the courthouse. The discovery docket allows the case to move forward without requiring unnecessary court appearances.
What happens after my attorney receives all the evidence?
Once discovery is complete, the court administrator will move your case to an appearance docket.
This is a court date that you and I will attend. At that point, we can begin negotiating with the prosecutors about a possible resolution of your case.
What should I do if my case is currently on the discovery docket?
You do not need to do anything regarding this court date. We are tracking your case while waiting for the prosecutors to provide the evidence.
Once your case is moved to an appearance docket, we will notify you of your next court date and explain what to expect.
